Hmong Lwm Sub

"Lwm sub" (or Lwm Sub) is a Hmong ritual ceremony performed to ward off bad omens, evil spirits, and negative energy from the passing year and to welcome a prosperous new one. During the ceremony, which takes place outside, a spiritual leader blesses a walkway under a suspended rope of leaves. Participants then walk in a circle under the rope, symbolizing the departure of bad luck and the arrival of good fortune, harmony, and good health for the new year.
